Series Review: Lux Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Lux Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout (including Beginnings, Consequences, and Opposition)

I originally started this series a few years ago, before the new editions were released. If I'm being completely honest, I don't understand in the slightest why they changed the covers and combined books. I guess to make more money? In my opinion, the new covers aren't an improvement from the old ones. Maybe that's just because I'm not a fan of real people on books. Just can't stand it!
The first of the new bind-ups, Beginnings, includes the first two books: Obsidian and Onyx. The second, Consequences, includes Opal and Origin. The third and final book is titled Opposition and it includes the prequel to the series, Shadows. I haven't read the prequel, as I'm not really as interested in the characters it follows, so I don't feel a huge motivation to read it.
Let me start off by saying that this series is fun. It's not a literary masterpiece, but it is action-packed and entertaining, which is exactly what I hoped for when I picked up the first book. The series follows he main protagonist, a teenaged girl named Katy, who moves to a new town and faces things she never thought she could believe. Aliens. And Daemon Black. I haven't really read many Alien books, besides The Fifth Wave, so I didn't really know what to expect.

The series does a great job at developing characters, even if some of them may be over the top and hard to believe.  The dialogue is so sassy and hilarious, especially in the first book. It will make you laugh out loud and cheer for the stubborn main character and her love interest, Daemon. His sassiness made me laugh out loud at times. Armentrout did a great job of writing a likable and relatable main character, someone who most of her readers can connect with. I loved her snarkiness and snappy come-backs. Also, the romance in the series, however cheesy, is cute, and definitely made me want to keep reading. If you are going into this book hoping for a sci-fy, completely nil of romance, this book may not be for you. The romance in this story is the main driving force for the series.
Overall, I completely loved the series, and it did exactly what I wanted it to. Sure, at times the cheese was unbearable, but what can you expect from a romance book about aliens. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a fun and quick read. I've read some of Armentrout's other books, and I liked them a lot, so I would check some of those out to. She gets material out so quickly, I don't understand how she does it!
If you've read any of the books, let me know what you thought! Thanks for reading!
I'd probably give the series 4 stars overall because it kept me thouroughly entertained, even if the writing wasn't completely genius. I absolutely loved the series, even if it was a guilty pleasure. Hope you enjoyed the review!

  1. I've only read the first book in the series. It was so highly recommended, and yet... I probably won't be reading any more of the books. The writing was just not good enough for me, and I really disliked Daemon.

Maybe if I'd been a bigger fan of Twilight I might've liked Obsidian more (because it seemed very Twilight-esque to me). I know it's a really popular series, though. To each their own!
